Background

There is a core exhibition relating to the historic Round Tower and the Pictish history of the Abernethy area.
Abernethy's highly acclaimed Millennium quilt is also on permanent display. The other displays in the Museum are changed each year, with many of them focussing on life in Abernethy in more recent times.

By the eighteenth century, the economy of the parish was based around the textile industry, agriculture and fishing and Abernethy was at the centre of the linen industry in Scotland, after the arrival of a group of skilled Huguenot exiles, but the industry declined due to the arrival of cheaper imports. Agriculture and fishing remained important industries until the twentieth century.
